Where is Obong Victor Attah?

-

Just like a parlour in heaven, the fairways are lush enough. The water hazards are equally breath-taking and you can encounter these in about every hole. And the Greens are like you’ll ever see at Augusta National, the Georgian home of world masters of the game of golf.

But come to think of it, who will ever believe it? That Nigeria could own such a golf course that could make any soul sleep in regal solitude. Brace yourself, the course lies there in Uyo, Akwa Ibom. Not just the course but a Meridien five-star hotel and a complete, helipad are the footstool of this course that could be instantly rated among the very best of courses in the Algarves, Portugal.

Truth is the first time I saw the Ibom course, a sudden urge to urinate gripped my loins. Who in his best element would ever work out a dream where Akwa Ibom would place on mother earth a course that could shift the ever popular IBB course in Abuja to the back-stage? For God’s sake, the former Governor of that state, Obong Victor Attah did.

At the time of building the course, I could recall Attah saying, “It is extremely important to convince the whole of the world that there is a new kind of Niger Delta that is not the world of militants, youth restiveness and so on, but one of peace, serenity and absolute beauty. I am convinced that this resort represents the other side of Niger Delta that I just told you about… the world of peace and tranquility. Our hope is that this resort would continue to bring progress and peace to the Niger Delta and we want the rest of the world to take the message back to their people and the rest of the world. We look forward to more Americans coming here to play golf in absolute freedom”.

It is immaterial if Attah plays golf. What matters is he has booked a place among Golf Icons in Nigeria and he shall be celebrated by the Icons publication.

But seriously, where is Obong Victor Attah?
