Tijjaniya leaders declare ‘Haqiqah’ sect non-Muslims

- From Kabiru R. Anwar, Yola

Tijjaniyyah scholars in Adamawa State yesterday condemned the strange doctrine of a sect known as Haqiqah which claimed Ramadan fasting and five daily prayers are optional.

In a statement in Yola by Sheikh Hamidu Moddibo Jailani, the leaders of Tijjaniyah group declared Haqiqa adherents nonMuslims.

They called on security agencies to be vigilant and check the excesses of the group in order to curtail the threat it posed to national security.

The scholars also condemned killings in parts of the country, advocating dialogue as means of settling disputes.

“The Darika Tijjaniyyah is deeply concerned about spate of flagrant un-Islamic practices being pioneered by a dissident group called Haqiqah that claims to be from the Dariqah. All the actions, inactions, preaching and other activities of the dissident group are at variance with established Islamic doctrines as enshrined in the Qur’an and Hadith, it also ran contrary to Ijma’a or consensus opinion of present and past Muslim jurists all over the world”, it read.

“Thus, we wish to make it clear that the Darqatul Tijjniyyah is dissociating itself from this group and all their activities and from any other group that moves away from Allah’s injunction in the Qur’an and the Prophet’s interpretation in Hadith. Such people should no longer be considered Muslim”, the statement read in part.
