Protest at LAUTECH as 12 rusticated students barred from exams
Members of the National Association of Nigerian Students yesterday protested at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, over the school’s decision to bar 12 students it rusticated last week from writing their second semester examinations.
Among the protesters were members of another university students’ body, the National Association of University Students (NAUS) and some students of LAUTECH.
The school’s management had last Wednesday expelled four students, placed two on an indefinite suspension, two on a four-semester suspension and four on a six-semester suspension.
A statement by the registrar, Reverend Jacob Agboola, said a panel the school had constituted following a crisis that erupted after the Students Union election on June 13, 2018 found the students guilty of actively participating in an attack on the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr Sunday Adewale.
Expelled were Abdulafeez Olatunbosun Adeoti of the Civil Engineering Department; Oluwatimileyin Akinloye, Pure and Applied Physics; Raymond Ndubuisi Eze of Management and Accounting and Sodiq Dauda, a Chemical Engineering student.
Suspended indefinitely were Ismail Olalekan, a Computer Science and Engineering student and Usman Ayobami Azeez, a Biochemistry student.
Suspended for four semesters were Akeem Amoo, a Transport Management student and Adeniran Remi Atoyebi of Pure and Applied Mathematics, while Oluwaseyi Bankole (Pure and Applied Physics), Opeyemi Israel Oluwole (Pure and Applied Chemistry) Aderemi Joseph Abioye (Anatomy) and Sulaiman Adeniyi Adewale (Anatomy) were suspended for six semesters.
