‘Killer doctor’, nurse nabbed for performing deadly abortion on lady

A medical doctor, who the police in Ogun State described as ‘killer doctor’, and a nurse have been arrested for allegedly performing an abortion on a lady that led to her death.

The doctor, Olawale Raji and the nurse, Olusegun Funmilayo, were arrested on July 26 by detectives from the homicide section of the state police command.

It was gathered that the two had carried out an abortion that led to the death of one Aminat Iyanda Atisola.

Ogun State Police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident said their arrest followed a complaint from the sister of the deceased, one Bose Kazeem of Number 6, Ireakari St, Atan Ota.

Oyeyemi said the complainan­t had reported that her deceased sister was two months pregnant and contracted the service of the two suspects, who were working in a private hospital, to carry out the abortion.

He said she stated further that the suspects carried out the unlawful act in the house of the deceased.

He said that trouble when the deceased having complicati­ons after the abortion.

He said the deceased was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta for treatment but died on the way.

“On receiving the report, the DPO Onipanu Division, Sangobiyi Johnson, led his team of detectives to the scene where started started shortly the two medical practition­ers were promptly arrested,” he said.

“The corpse of the 35-year-old deceased has been deposited at the general hospital morgue for post mortem examinatio­n.”

Meanwhile, the Commission­er of Police CP Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered that the suspects be transferre­d to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigat­ion and Intelligen­ce Department for proper investigat­ion and prosecutio­n.

He equally warned that abortion remains an unlawful act and whoever is caught engaging in it without any medical justificat­ion will have the law of the land to contend with. The CP further appealed to members of the public to always seek lawful profession­al advice on any health-related issues.
