Acquiring knowledge through books stands test of time — Don

- From Isa Sa’idu, Zaria

The administrator of Kaduna state-owned Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Professor Shehu Dalhatu, yesterday said students must be encouraged to read books available in libraries as that could assist in addressing the falling standard of education in Nigeria.

Speaking while receiving donation of 195 books from the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Zaria branch, Dalhatu said quality of education was sound in the past because there were well-equipped libraries and students were effectively utilising them.

He added; “this is why individuals and organisations must join hands with government in salvaging education in Nigeria. Some of us are where we are today because we had the privilege of enjoying free education. Since government is failing in discharging its responsibilities because of overwhelming demands, we must come in to assist.”

While presenting the books that cut across different disciplines like Accounting, Business and Public Administration etcetera, Chairperson of ANAN, Zaria, Mrs Naomi Gauje Zakka, said they decided to make the donation as part of their corporate social responsibility to their host community.

She said ANAN had passion for supporting the achievement of academic excellence; hence it was doing everything possible to assist those at the grassroots.
