‘Police, civil defence must patrol liberated areas in N/East’

The Minister of Defence Mansur Dan Ali said the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps must deploy personnel to patrol areas liberated by the military in the Northeast.

He said the move is to sustain gains achieved by the military in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists.

Dan Ali was speaking yesterday after a of the National Council held at House in Abuja.

He said the strategy would enable the military focus more on its clearance operations of completely eliminatin­g the terrorists.

A statement by the minister’s public relation officer, Colonel Tukur Gusau, said the minister had revealed that to stop future security incidences in meeting Security the State Zamfara, Sokoto and Birnin Gwari, the newly launched operation Sharan Daji has been extended to the fringes of the Niger border.

He said the operation was recently reinforced with more troops from the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police and Department of State Services, supported by the Intelligen­ce, Surveillan­ce and Recognisan­ce Wing of 207 Quick Response Group of the Nigerian Air Force.

“The joint operation has successful­ly arrested some suspected armed bandits and recovered arms and ammunition. Similarly, in order to checkmate the criminal activities along Abuja-Kaduna highway, security agencies have been directed to increase patrols along the axis to address cases of attacks and kidnapping­s,” the statement said.
