We won’t short-change anybody — Buhari

- From Balarabe Alkassim, Bauchi

President Muhammadu Buhari has promised that his administration will not short-change Nigerians and will not allow anybody to cheat or shortchange them.

Buhari spoke in Bauchi, yesterday, at a rally to canvass support for Lawal Yahaya Gumau, the party’s candidate in the forthcoming Bauchi South Senatorial District by-election.

He said the APC campaigned and Nigerians voted for its candidates on the premise and hope of having improved security, fighting corruption and curbing socioeconomic challenges.

“I want you to know that what we are doing is the best for the country and for you. We also want to inform you that we will not short-change you or allow anybody to short-change you.

“Our aim is to make the country better in terms of security, economy and the fight against bribery and corruption. It is on these promises that we campaigned and you voted for us. We will never forget this,” he said.

Speaking on the election, the president urged the people of Bauchi South to vote for the party’s candidate in the by-election.

“I came to ask for a favour from you to vote for Lawal Yahaya to become the Senator for Bauchi South. I want you to inform others who are not here to vote for him (Lawal Yahaya) because we know he can deliver. May Allah drive away hypocrites and people of dubious character among us,” he prayed.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, blasted members of the party that recently defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties.

Oshiomhole described the defectors as people who were against what the president was doing to make the country better.

While speaking, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, who hailed the president for coming to the state to flag off the campaign for the APC candidate, said Buhari had done a lot in the last three years, especially by taking the country out of recession, while countries like Greece were still battling to overcome it.
