Tambuwal shouldn’t be in a hurry — Wamakko

- From Rakiya A. Muhammad, Sokoto

The recent gale of defections from the APC is a good omen for the party, Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum (NSF), Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has said.

Sen. Wamakko said, in a statement, that the APC was currently engaged in stocktaking and would come out stronger.

He also said Sokoto remained an APC state and that the people were solidly behind President Muhammadu Buhari despite the defection of Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to the PDP with 18 members of the House of Assembly and other supporters.

“If he ( Tambuwal) had taken consideration of the people he is representing, the people of Sokoto State, he would not have gone to PDP,’’ he said.

The former Sokoto State Governor added that, “Maybe something else is guiding his decision. This is the worst decision he has taken in his life.”

He described Tambuwal as “a very promising young politician with full potentials.

“At his age, he should not be in a hurry. He is a fine young politician; I have a lot of respect for him.”

He also noted that the current flurry of defections was common since the return of democracy in 1999.

“Parties making realignments and mergers is just normal; that is the beauty of democracy. People should be given the freedom to be where they want to be; it is nothing unusual,” he stated.

“In the next few days or months, Nigerians would be surprised how the APC is going to fare,’’ he said.
