Youth advised on how to participate in politics
A former Clerk of the National Assembly (CNA) has given students and youths a ten point agenda as a guide for those wishing to actively participate in politics.
Dr. Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa gave the advice in an opening remark at a lecture organized by the Nasarawa state students of the University of Abuja titled “Youth Participation in Politics” recently held at the main campus of the University Gwagwalada, Abuja.
He advised them not to regard politics as a stepping stone for being rich but rather as a means for contributing positively to the development of the nation and uplifting the status of the common man.
He said, one of the most important lessons they should also learn is to be a hardworking, tolerant and transparent leader who could propagate proper values in whatever situation he finds himself.
Dr. Maikasuwa who had referred to the recent statement made by the French President Macron Emmanuel urging youth to be involved in politics had warned against God-fatherism which he said, could be detrimental to the society.
Maikasuwa who is a visiting lecturer at Nasarawa State University, Keffi urged the youth to always be humble and respectful and also to avoid being arrogant in their interactions with the public. He said, at all cost violence must be avoided and that politics is just a matter of choice.
