Kabiru Yusuf emerges Africa Media Initiative chairman
The Founder of Media Trust Limited, publisher of Daily Trust and other titles, Malam Kabiru Yusuf, has emerged the Chairman of the African Media Initiative (AMI).
A statement from AMI said Yusuf accepted to chair the organization as replacement to late Wale Aboderin, former publisher of Punch newspaper, who briefly chaired AMI between 2017 until his recent demise.
The statement by the Chief Executive Officer of AMI, Dr Roukaya Kasenally said the emergence of Yusuf was deemed most relevant for the organization because of the strength and dynamism of Nigeria’s media market, as well as the need to have a key media player from West African region within AMI’s board leadership.
It added that after almost eight years of board leadership under Mr Trevor Ncube, Chair of the Alpha Media Holdings from Southern Africa, it was necessary to pass on the board leadership to West Africa.
“The nomination of Mr Yusuf is deemed to be most relevant for an organization like AMI for multiple reasons.
“Nigeria is one of the largest and among the most dynamic media markets and it was important to have a key media player from that region within AMI’s board leadership,” the statement said.
It said AMI would organize its first board meeting under Malam Kabiru Yusuf once he officially assumes his position.
The board members congratulated the Daily Trust publisher for agreeing to be on the AMI board, as well as lending his support to the organization.
