S/East lawmakers flay Ndume over Ekweremadu
Members of the House of Representatives from South East zone have warned that they would hold former Senate leader, Ali Ndume responsible should any harm befall Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.
In a statement yesterday in Abuja, spokesman of the lawmakers, Chukwuka Onyema (PDP, Anambra) accused Ndume of interfering with the statutory job of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as shown by his comments in a recent publication, which “unmasked the real issues and those behind Ekweremadu’s ordeal.”
“We have watched events around the National Assembly, especially the ruthless attempts to emasculate the opposition and unseat the Senate leadership by all means.
“We have also followed the ongoing investigation of the deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu by the EFCC. Despite our doubts, we have maintained calm, hoping that the law would take its natural cause and vindicate the innocent.
“However, we are worried after reading comments by Senator Ali Ndume, who canvassed for Ekweremadu’s detention and indictment by the agency in spite of his obvious ill-health,” Onyema said.
The lawmakers said while Ekweremadu needs to be alive to face his investigation, Ndume’s comments clears every iota of doubt that he and other APC senators were behind Ekweremadu’s ordeal to unseat the Senate leadership.
