- By Simon Echewofun Sunday

The management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) says it will flag off the installation of 222,728 meters valued at about N10 billion for its customers under the second phase of its mass metering programme tomorrow.

AEDC had in the first phase installed about 150,000 meters for its customers across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger states.

A statement issued by Oyebode Fadipe, Head, Corporate Communications of AEDC, said the aggressive deployment of meters is part of its determination to achieve 100 per cent metering to engender public confidence in its billing process.

It said the metering programme is to also complement the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) Scheme initiated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to accelerate the metering of electricity consumers.

In the statement, AEDC said the second phase is being implemented through partnership with Meron Consortium, a group that comprises of manufacturers, financiers and installers of meters.

The firms signed the pact to all deploy 222,728 meters in May 2018.

The MD/CEO of AEDC, Engr. Ernest Mupwaya, at the pact signing said, “For customers, metering gives them the assurance of fair, transparent and accurate billing and also serves as a useful tool for them to manage their consumption and costs.
