NCC, lottery commission to review MoU

- By Zakariyya Adaramola

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Lottery Regulation Commission (NLRC) have reviewed the existing Memorandum of Understanding to accommodate trends in the industry.

Daily Trust reports that the MoU was signed between them in 2011 for the purpose of providing complementary approaches to deter unapproved lottery practices on telecommunications platforms through information and intelligence sharing.

Speaking before the signing of reviewed MoU in Abuja on Monday, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta said unapproved lottery practices on telecom platforms undermined the integrity of domestic and global markets while also undermining consumer confidence in the markets.

“Very soon we are going to license our telecommunications companies to host lotteries on telecom network and because the network are regulated by the NCC we need to be involved because the service you (NLRC) are about to introduce will add additional burden to the network.

The Director General of NRLC, Lanre Gbajabiamila said the reviewed MoU will make it easy for all the stakeholders involved to have the ease of doing business especially when it comes to lottery and gaming industry.

“Also to ensure it’s well regulated for the integrity and transparency of this industry as we all know what lottery is all about it’s about the game of chance and we do know that without payments being made or winners being given what they won that defeats the whole purpose of this industry”, he said.
