APC lawmakers demand probe of N/Assembly invasion
The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the House of Representatives have demanded investigation into the recent invasion of the National Assembly by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Briefing journalists yesterday in Abuja, House Leader and Spokesman of the APC caucus, Femi Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos) condemned the invasion as a “rape on democracy,” which must be investigated to unravel the facts and punish the culprits.
He regretted that the invasion “Has been given partisan coloration, especially by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” in order to malign President Muhammadu Buhari even though “the worse happened under PDP in 2014.”
He denied that the invasion was orchestrated by APC members to impeach Senate President Bukola Saraki, and lauded President Buhari for sacking the DSS boss, Lawal Daura.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun (APC, Osun) said though the invasion was condemnable, the APC, which “maintains majority in both the House and Senate,” has endorsed Buhari for the 2019 election.
He said the National Assembly would reconvene on Tuesday or Wednesday next week to consider the supplementary budget for the 2019 elections.
“We condemn what happened and commend the presidency for action on the DSS. Everyone in APC has agreed that no one will represent us better than Buhari in 2019. We will also reconvene on Tuesday or Wednesday to consider the INEC budget,” Lasun stated.
