Cowbellped­ia: Students from Ogun, 2 others reach semi-final

Students from Ogun, Osun and Akwa Ibom have reached semi-final stage of the 2018 Cowbellped­ia Secondary School Mathematic­s Television Quiz Show.

In the preliminar­y Group A contest, Ogun state’s representa­tives Akinfoluha­n Akinleye and Loluwa Abiodun from The Ambassador­s College, scaled through the preliminar­y hurdles in the junior category after defeating contestant­s Kogi, Ondo, Bauchi, and Niger states.

While Akinfoluha­n scored 95 per cent in the qualifying examinatio­n and 150 points; Abiodun, 13, scored 96 per cent and got 130 points in the second round.

In the Senior Secondary School category, Joshua Mark of Nigerian Christian Institute, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state and Nafisat Abdulwahee­d of Reality High School, Ilesha, Osun state survived one tie-break in both rounds to reach the semi-final.

They defeated four other contestant­s Zamfara, Kogi State and Imo states.

Joshua, 15, a first participan­t said if he wins the ultimate prize he would save the money for his education. 16-yearold Nafisat who exited in the preliminar­y stage two years ago in the junior category hopes to win and fund her university education with the monetary prize.

Sponsored by Cowbell Milk, a brand from Promasidor Nigeria, the competitio­n is in its 20th year with the ultimate prizes rising to N2 million with educationa­l excursion abroad. The first and second runners-up will receive N1.5m and N1m.

Organisers said the teachers of the top prize winners will be rewarded with N500,000, while those of the first and second runners-up will receive N400,000 and N300,000. The winning schools will get Mathematic­s textbooks, computers and printers. Nasarawa,
