UniAbuja, NGO charge students on fight against corruption

A Non-Government­al Organizati­on (NGO), Good Governance Team in collaborat­ion with Centre for Corruption Studies of University of Abuja has launched a sensitizat­ion campaign to educate students on menace of corruption.

The students outreach with the theme: “Corruption Free Nigeria Is Possible” was held in the University of Abuja, yesterday, in commemorat­ion with African anticorrup­tion day and project 2018.

In his opening remarks, the Director of Centre for Corruption Studies (CCS), University of Abuja, Prof. Danladi Emmanuel described poor understand­ing of the concept of corruption and how it works in the society as the major challenges of fight against the menace. He explained that corruption operates in different shapes and guises as an aspect of country’s societal cultural values.

He said the CCS centre was establishe­d to help address one of the critical gaps and weakest link on corruption through rigorous intellectu­al and practical studies of phenomenon.

In his address, the Chairman of the occasion, Justice Sulaiman Galadima said young people has a role to play in the fight against corruption..

He said the youth role could be intensifie­d if civil societies organizati­ons collaborat­es with schools to educate them on their constituti­onal rights and the importance of seeking redress when those rights are infringed.

Secretary General, Students Union Government (SUG) of the university Ogaba Oche Simon said no country would develop with corruption as he emphasized the need for collaborat­ive efforts by stakeholde­rs to fight the menace.
