Re: Of herders and farmers
Thanks a lot, Gambo Dori for the wonderful piece on the above mentioned subject. His Royal Highness the Emir of Muri said it all. Nigerian security, prosecution and political leaders are responsible for the failure to bring about lasting solutions to the lingering ethnic and communal conflicts across the Northern part of the country in particular and the entire country as a whole. The godfathers who are mostly untouchable elites go free without even being questioned. It’s true, we had farmers and herdsmen yesteryears; we have herdsmen and farmers today. All things being equal, we shall have farmers and farmers tomorrow. The two need each other for mutual coexistence. The moment we are able to have responsive authorities peace shall come back to the people. Neither nomadic life nor village farming is new. The two were living side by side before the coming of the colonial system. Peaceful coexistence is what the Northern rural population are used to.
Dr. Saidu Samaila, saidu.kida@gmail.com Lawal Musa Daura by the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was a good omen for the entire country as well as the ruling party because of the damage that would have been done to Nigeria at the international community. Whether the Vice President sacked Daura after consultation with the President was not clear. But what is clear was that he did it knowing that it was the most obvious damage control measure to take considering the national and international uproar the incident had generated.
