Maina: Pension taskforce member seeks probe
A member of civil society organisation, the Legislative Watch has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate every member of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) that served with Abdulrasheed Maina.
The Executive Secretary of the CSO, Ngozika Ihuoma, in a letter addressed to the President dated August 13, 2018, detailed what it called the ‘victimization’ of Maina over his recovery of N1.3 trillion from high ‘profile pension thieves’.
Ihuoma, who served as the only civil society member in the PRTT team, questioned why other members from the EFCC, ICPC, DSS, NIA, Customs, Immigration, Police, Prisons, AGF, AuGF, PCC were not probed to ascertain the truth about the recovered pension funds.
He explained that Maina met with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), National Security Adviser (NSA), and the former Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) where he provided intelligence on the recoveries under the whistle blower policy.
“We have patiently waited for formal communication or reasons for his disengagement but to no avail. Who is afraid of Maina? If Mr President is actually fighting corruption, should he disengage a civil servant who has volunteered useful information that has led to recovery of over N1.3 trillion?” he asked.
He urged the president to review the judicial pronouncements, which nullified Maina’s dismissal with a view to reinstating him.
