Farmers-herders clashes instigated – Al-Mustapha

- From Andrew Agbese, Kaduna

Former Chief Security Officer to late former Head of State General Sani Abacha, Hamza AlMustapha yesterday said the clashes between farmers and herdsmen across the country were instigated to divert attention from certain happenings in the country.

Al Mustapha, who spoke in Kaduna during an interactive session organized by the United Christian Leaders Eagle Eye Forum in collaboration with 40 Christian pressure groups nationwide, said the causes of the clashes were similar to those of insurgency in the northeast and militancy in the south-south.

The former CSO said he gathered credible information from some 138 Boko Haram members that were detained in Lagos Kirikiri prison which indicated that the dreaded sect were being sponsored by some people who never meant well for the country.

“They brought a good number of Boko Haram members(138) to stay with me in the prison, the information these Boko Haram members revealed to me is too weighty for me to tell Nigerians.

“I learnt a lot from these Boko Haram members. I was surprised how they get arms on daily basis and to me, it is dangerous to arm a detachment of terrorists and refused to arm the army,” he added.

He said there were 11 attempts to kill him by people who wanted him dead because they thought he knew too much.

He said though the anticorruption war was being fought with vigor, only low level criminals were being prosecuted with the big thieves being over looked.

Al-Mustapha said Nigeria’s restructuring was inevitable as “A country that refuses to restructure is a country that does not make projections. Projections are developmental act based on cause, changes, desire, unity and understanding of the people of the country.”
