102 women die daily in Nigeria during childbirth - Mrs Akeredolu

The wife of the Ondo State governor, Mrs Betty AnyanwuAke­redolu, has disclosed that 102 women in Nigeria die daily during or after childbirth. She also said 2,123 children die before their 5th birthday.

Attributin­g these deaths to low literacy level among women, Mrs Akeredolu described female education as a veritable tool for preventing women and child-related deaths and achieving rapid national developmen­t.

Mrs Akeredolu stated this at the opening ceremony of the ongoing BeMore Summer Bootcamp for Girls Naija, 2018 in Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State.

The Bootcamp programme was organised by the BeMore Empowered Foundation, in conjunctio­n with the Ondo State Office of the First Lady. During the programme, more than 400 girls are expected to be trained in Informatio­n Communicat­ion & Technology (ICT), Solar Technology and other life-enhancing skills.

The Ondo State governor’s wife restated her commitment to empowering the womenfolk, while also charging beneficiar­ies of the Bootcamp programme to strive solutions country.

Mrs Akeredolu acknowledg­ed the feats attained by Tomisin Tomoju, a secondary school student who won the Africa Code Week Scratch Competitio­n for Ondo State; Oluwafunmi­lola Akeremale, a JSS1 student who has been mentored to become the youngest breast cancer to be part of bedevillin­g the the advocate in the state; and Tolu Ehimosan, who built a stateof-the-art solar oven.

Mrs Akeredolu also lauded the efforts of the Anambra State Golden Girls who clinched the gold medal at a World Technovati­on Challenge, while thanking all those she said invested both money and time to ensure the success of the 2nd edition of the Summer Bootcamp.
