Ibrahim happy to return to Aba with Enyimba

- By David Ngobua

E@Ngobuadavid nyimba FC striker, Mustapha Ibrahim has expressed happiness over the return of his club to the refurbished Aba International stadium after three years in ‘exile’.

For three seasons, the two time African champions played their home matches away from home as they adopted the Yakubu Gowon stadium Port-Harcourt and UJ Esuene stadium Calabar as their home ground for both local league and CAF competitions.

However, after the renovation of the Aba International stadium which is the original home ground of Enyimba, the ‘peoples elephants’ have returned home.

Their first home match at the new ultra-modern stadium will be on Sunday against CARA Brazzaville in the final CAF Confederation Cup group C clash.

Already the ‘peoples elephants’ have tested the well-laid artificial turf with a friendly match against a local club and are raring to go in both the CAF Confederation Cup and the domestic league.

Ibrahim told Daily Trust yesterday that Enyimba are happy to return home as he said there is no place like home.

He said although they did their best, it was not easy playing home matches away from home in the domestic league and continental competitions.

“We are excited to come back home. As the saying goes, there is no place like home. We really missed our fans for like three years.

“It was not easy so we are happy to be back home. I want to thank the government of Abia State for ensuring that we return to our home ground.

“I believe that this new stadium will motivate us to put in our best against our continental and local opponents. The new Aba International stadium is indeed a motivating factor,” he said.

The former El-Kanemi Warriors striker therefore assured that Enyimba will beat CARA Brazzaville on Sunday to open the stadium on a winning note.
