UniAbuja produces 22 medical doctors, expels 33 students over malpractice
The University of Abuja has graduated 22 new medical doctors, its second set since the commencement of the programme in 2005.
The first set of 18 medical doctors graduated in December 2017, 12 years after the commencement of the programme.
The 22 new medical doctors were inducted by the Medical & Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), on Saturday 1st September, 2018.
Speaking, the representative of the MDCN, Professor S. Asala, who administered the Hippocratic Oath on the inductees, said the graduates were from the 2006/ 2007 academic session.
He said the delay in their graduation was due to the problems encountered over the accreditation of the medical courses of the College but expressed delight that the College has maintained the standards set by the MDCN.
The inducted medical doctors comprised 3 females and 19 males.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Michael U. Adikwu, who was represented by the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Academic), Professor Edmund J.C. Nwana charged the medical graduates to render service to humanity diligently and maintain discipline, restraint, and dignity of the profession, and the fear of God.
The university has also expelled 33 students and suspended two others for one semester for their involvement in examination misconduct.
A statement by the Deputy Registrar (Information) Waziri Garba said the Senate took the decision at its 169th regular meeting on Wednesday, July 25, 2018.
