‘I’ve not seen my wife, daughter 2 years after their abduction’

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

The immediate past chairman of Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Yahaya Garba Gawu, has said he has not seen his wife since she was abducted by gunmen two years ago despite payment of N5.5 million ransom to the kidnappers.

Gawu, who spoke to our reporter in Abuja yesterday, said the kidnappers abducted his wife along with her six-year-old child in April 2016, adding that he explored all avenues to ensure that she and his daughter were released but to no availed.

He said he established direct contact with the kidnappers for only two months and that he has not heard from them again.

He said he first paid N3 million ransom and later paid an additional N2 million through one of his close relatives to the kidnappers, yet his wife’s and daughter’s whereabouts unknown.

He said some suspects were arrested by the police AntiRobbery Squad (SARS) in connection with the abduction but nothing has come out of it yet.

“It is quite unfortunate that despite the N5.5 million they demanded and I gave them, were still up till today, I am yet to see my wife and my six-year-old daughter.

“All efforts have been made to see that they are released but to no avail. I have left everything in the hands of God. If they are still alive, one day, I will see them and if they are no more, I wish them eternal rest in Aljannah,” he said.
