Mopol beheaded by ‘cultists’ in Plateau

A headless body of a mobile police officer has been found in Jos, Plateau State.

The body was found behind New Township Stadium along Zaria road in Jos North Local Government area of the state.

The mopol identified as Unana Ishay was from Mopo 56 and attached to Sector One of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) - a security taskforce saddled with a responsibi­lity of restoring and maintainin­g peace in the state.

The Plateau State Police Command said the mopol was beheaded last Saturday when he left his base with the intention of buying Suya.

The Police Public Relation Officer, (PPRO) , Tyopev Terna said his command knew about the beheading when a Captain in the Nigeria Army, Joer Olaruwaju reported the incident at the Laranto Police Division.

Terna said the sergeant left the base on the 1st of September, 2018. “The corpse has been deposited at the Plateau Specialist Hospital,” he said.

He added is ongoing assailants.

An official at the Farar Gada Market where the beheading took place, told Daily Trust on condition of anonymity, that they found the headless body of the mopol when he was called by his colleagues at the market.

He said, “As stakeholde­rs in the market, on Saturday morning, we were called to go and see for ourselves the body of the policeman because the area where the body was found is close to our market.”

“When we went there, his body was laying on the ground, I couldn’t calm myself because the head was cut off. I quickly turned back. I don’t want to be rememberin­g what would disturb my sleep,” he said.

He said the circumstan­ces surroundin­g the killing is still unclear but people in the area alleged that it was connected to the activities of cultists.
