Why I refused to follow Shekarau to APC — Takai

- From Yusha’u A. Ibrahim, Kano

A long-time political ally of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and 2015 gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Kano State, Malam Salihu Sagir Takai, has given reasons as to why he did not follow the former governor to APC.

According to Takai, “After extensive consultations with my supporters, admirers, well-wishers, party faithful at different levels including aspirants for various elective offices, it was clear that majority want us to remain in PDP.

“And as a democrat, I have no option than to heed to the opinion of the majority by remaining in the PDP,” he said.

Takai said it took him more than four days consulting with his supporters on the state of affairs in the PDP in Kano since the dissolution of the state executives by the national working committee of the party; and the subsequent defection of some members led by Shekarau.

Takai has since led his campaign team and supporters on a solidarity visit to the state caretaker committee of the party led by Engineer Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, a loyalist of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso who recently re-joined the PDP.

While pledging his loyalty to the party leadership during the visit, the governorship hopeful urged them to be just and fair to members.

Responding, Bichi assured Takai of the commitment of his team to ensure justice and equity among all.
