Our ancestors behind Abuja earth tremor – Natives

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

Natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the aegis of Coalition of Abuja Indigenous Association (CAIA) have claimed that their ancestors are responsible for the recent earth tremor in Abuja which created panic among some residents.

A statement issued to newsmen in Abuja yesterday by the group’s spokesman, Yusuf Ahmadu Yunusa, said the claim by some government agencies and officials was not correct that the earth tremor was a natural incident.

It said it was unfortunate that most residents of the territory could not believe that Abuja had original inhabitants.

According to Yunusa, the natives have in the recent past threatened to invoke the spirits of their ancestors to join them in the genuine struggle to liberate their people from marginalisation by the government.

“We the natives have cried enough and we may have to resort to other alternatives to agitate for our inclusion in the scheme of things by the Federal Government," he said.

The natives said it was regrettable that since their ethnic consensus allowed free government operations in the FCT, the government had not returned the gesture.

“We natives want to make it categorically clear that the struggle is not yet over and we will not relent until deliberate efforts by the Federal Government is visibly recorded, which include the appointment of an FCT native as a minister,” they said.
