Suspected rapist, accomplice arrested at EKSU

- From Doyin Adebusuyi, Ado Ekiti

Security guards of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) have arrested a man they alleged had raped many female students of the school.

The 18-year-old suspected rapist, Chidi Okoye, said to have been on the wanted list of the EKSU Security Unit for some time, allegedly specialised in going to the off-campus residence of the students at Iworoko at night to rape them at gunpoint.

Okoye, who is not a student of the university, was yesterday arrested and paraded alongside another suspect, Kayode Odunmbaku, whom the security guards described as his accomplice. Odunmbaku it was, the guards added, who always opened the door to their own apartment for Okoye on return from his dastardly activities.

At the parade of the suspects, the EKSU Chief Security Officer (CSO), Captain Tunde Ajayi (retd), revealed that not less than seven female students had fallen victim of Okoye in the last three months.

Ajayi, who paraded the suspects in the presence of the Investigating Police Officer in charge of the case at the Iworoko police divisional headquarters, confirmed that most of Okoye’s victims were students residing in the neighbouring Iworoko community.

The EKSU security chief stressed that the suspect was usually armed with a pistol with which he threatened his victims to submission before forcibly having carnal knowledge of them.

Ajayi said, “With a good knowledge of the neighbourhood where Okoye himself resides, it was easy for him to unleash terror in the middle of the night and return to his room, which he shared with an accomplice, Kayode Odunmbaku.”
