Naval chief scores military high on security

The Chief of Naval Staff , Rear Admiral Ibok Ibas, has said that the military has done creditably well in tackling the nation’s security challenges.

He addressing officers and cadets at the NDA Regimental Dinner Night in honour of cadets of 65 Regular Course (Army) and 66 Regular Course (Navyand Air Force) at the Nigerian Defence Academy Cadets Mess at the weekend.

The Naval Chief, who was represente­d by the Naval Secretary, Rear Admiral Fredric Ugwu, noted that the successes achieved, particular­ly in the fight against insurgency in the northeast, was made possible by the selfless service, commitment, dedication of officers and men of the military.

Ibas called on the graduating cadets to justify the huge resources expended on their training during their years at the Academy.

According to him, “Military commission is a high call that requires unalloyed loyalty to the Constituti­on of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to the Commander – in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Therefore I task the graduating cadets to be committed to the sustenance of the Nigerian democracy and the ethos of the military profession.

“You should always strife towards protecting the unity of Nigeria and protecting her territoria­l integrity, as well as preserving the customs, ethics, traditions and core values of the Nigerian Armed Forces.”

He admonished the cadets to eschew a flamboyant lifestyle that would put a strain on their finances.

He also advised them against against doing thing for pecuniary gains and personal aggrandize­ment.
