Obaseki seeks presidential pardon for Ambrose Alli
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, has called on the Federal Government to give a presidential pardon to the first executive governor of old Bendel State, the late Ambrose Folorunsho Alli.
Obaseki made the call weekend at Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. during the 29th Memorial Day Celebrations held in honour of Alli.
The governor said Alli’s achievements were intimidating despite spending just one term in office.
“The years Ambrose Alli Bendel State Delta) can of Prof. governed (Edo and easily be referred to as the golden years of the state. We feel indebted to Alli and as governor of Edo State, I will continue to celebrate him,
“I had an audience with President Muhammadu Buhari while in China and discussed the issue of a presidential pardon for late Prof. Alli and the president asked me to meet with the Attorney-General of the Federation. This I have done and have also written to him and have been given assurance,” he said.
Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa said his state would continue to remember Alli for developing the state as the deceased’s developmental strides could still be seen years after his death.
Alli’s eldest son, Andrew Folorunso, lamented that despite the contributions of his late father to the development of Delta and Edo States as well as Nigeria at large, he was still termed a criminal.
He called on Edo and Delta States to take up the challenge by ensuring removing the stigma.
