2019: No to ethnic sentiments--Bayelsa youths

- From Bassey Willie, Yenagoa

Ayouths’ group in Bayelsa State says it will not allow ethnic sentiments to influence its choice of leadership at any level in the country during the 2019 elections.

The group, Outstanding Youths for Good Governance, told newsmen yesterday in Yenagoa that no matter what tribe an aspirant comes from, if he is found credible and possesses qualities of a good leader, it would support such a person.

The coordinator of the group, Karibokiri Yague and its secretary,Manawa Uda, said this while reacting to the claim that a senatorial aspirant in Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Barr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, is not from Ijaw ethnic group and does not deserved to have aspired for an elective position in the district.

They said: “Credibility should and must not be sacrificed for the ethnic sentiment, Barr Ewhrudjakpo has served as a commissioner in the Bayelsa State and performed creditably well, he is a bona-fide Ijaw son and should benefitted from anything due to an Ijaw person, besides, he is one of the best brains we should send to the National Assembly to give us effective representationwhich we have been yearning for a long time”.

They urged the people of the state to support candidates based on their credentials and abilities to offer them the needed effective representation.

According to them, the Niger Delta region is suffering because of ineffective representation at the National Assembly.

They said their resolve to support the best and credible persons for elective positions was not limited to the National Assembly alone, but all elective positions in the state for the betterment of the future generations.
