- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

Awoman, simply identified as Amina, escaped lynching by a mob after she allegedly attempted to kidnap a six-monthold baby boy, Ibrahim Idris, in Zuba, Gwagwalada Area Council.

The father of the child, Malam Lawal Ibrahim, who is the Sarkin Hausawa of Zuba, while narrating the incident to our reporter, yesterday, said it happened around 9:12am.

He said the woman allegedly entered into his room where the baby was kept by its mother and carried the baby.

He said the woman was a visitor in his house when she attempted kidnapping the boy.

He said he was not at home when the incident happened and his wife had to call and inform him on phone.

According to Idris, the suspect, who claimed to come from Zaria, Kaduna State, was hosted in the visitors’ room since Tuesday last week, adding that when his wife was in the kitchen, the suspect sneaked into their bedroom and picked up the child.

“She carried a kettle and pretended to enter the bathroom while my wife was in the kitchen. But when my wife looked through the window, she saw her sneaked into our room and carry my son. My wife then raised alarm,” he said.

The Sarkin Hausawa said as a leader in Zuba, he had the obligation of accommodating visitors and he had done that for over 10 years now.

Our reporter gathered that the woman, after she was beaten up by a mob, confessed to have stolen other children in the area through two of her gang members.

The Agora of Zuba, Mohammed Bello Umar, who confirmed the incident, said “In fact, just yesterday here in my palace, we held a security meeting about kidnap and crime cases and just this morning I was informed about a woman that was arrested for trying to kidnap a child.“

When City News visited Zuba police station, the suspect was seen with swollen face while the DPO CSP Sani S. Fodio, also confirmed the incident, saying she will be transferred to the FCT police command for further investigation.

City News also learnt that another four-year-old girl got missing at Zuba last week and her whereabouts were still unknown.
