Bala cautious as ‘Afonja Warriors’ tackle Rivers Utd in Aiteo Cup

T@Ngobuadavid he technical adviser of rejuvenated Kwara United, Abubakar Bala has chosen to tread cautiously despite a resounding victory over Abia Warriors on Monday in the group stage of the ongoing Aiteo Federation Cup.

Although Abia Warriors were favoured to win the contest, the ‘Afonja Warriors’ tamed the other warriors 5-1 to begin their campaign on a promising note.

This afternoon at the Agege township stadium Lagos, Kwara United will be up against Rivers United who lost their opening group match 2-3 to Kano Pillars at the same venue.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the former Kogi United and Niger Tornadoes coach said the match against Rivers United will stretch his team to the fullest.

According to him, Rivers United will come all out for victory against Kwara United because another defeat will spell doom for them.

Bala said he has told his boys to shift focus to the match against Rivers United because the win over Abia Warriors would count for nothing, if they do not get victory in today’s match.

“We are up against a difficult opposition but we are not going to dwell too much on their abilities. We are looking at our own strength and capacity to get a good result against them.

“I am happy that we started brilliantly but we are not allowing that to get into our heads. The match against Abia Warriors has come and gone. The next hurdle is Rivers United so that is what we are looking at for now.

“When we are done with Rivers, we shall play Pillars in our last group match. We want to play our last match in a more relaxed mood,” he said.

The Lagos centre of the Aiteo Cup has NPFL teams, Kano Pillars, Rivers United, Abia Warriors and Kwara United.
