- From Yusha’u A. Ibrahim, Kano

A former Principal Private Secretary to the late Emir of Kano Ado Bayero, Alhaji Isa Sanusi Bayero, yesterday escaped assassination

Five armed men suspected to be hired assassins were said to have stormed his residence in Sharada quarters in Kano and started shooting in the air in order to gain access into the house.

Bayero, who served as the late emir for 15 years, was stripped of his position by the current emir, Muhammad Sanusi ll.

Narrating his ordeal, Bayero said five gunmen stormed his house at about 7.40pm asking people his whereabouts.

Bayero was private pilot to five former Heads of States, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Abdussalam Abubakar, Sani Abacha and Mr Alex Shonekan.

“I was in my sitting room when the gunmen arrived and started shooting into the air. My driver went out to see what was going on. The assassins pointed a gun at his head and asked him to take them to the sitting room where I was watching television. Later, I followed my driver only to see one of the assassins holding a gun. So, I quickly shut the door and went back to the sitting room screaming for help. The assassins fled without hurting anybody,” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Magaji Musa Majia, confirmed the incident and said police had commenced investigation.
