9 gov’ship aspirants in Nasarawa reject new delegates list

Nine out of 11 governorsh­ip aspirants on the platform of APC in Nasarawa State have vowed to resist any change to the “authentic delegates list” endorsed by the national leadership of the party for the September 29 primaries in the state.

Nasarawa State Deputy Governor Silas Ali Agara, and one of the aspirants made the group’s position known in a chat with newsmen, yesterday, shortly after the APC zonal meeting held in Akwanga with party officials and delegates from the zone.

The aspirants, who kicked against any change to the delegates list, included Ahmed Wadada, Alhaji Danladi Envuluanza, Zakari Idde, Dauda Kigbu, Muhammed Maikaya, Dr James Angbazo, Arc. Shehu Tukur and Silas Ali Agara.

Agara said their action became necessary following credible informatio­n that “some undemocrat­ic forces” had replaced the original list of delegates in some local government­s with names of people who would favour their preferred candidate at the primaries.

Agara, who disclose names behind the did not of those alleged alternatio­n of the delegates list, however, fingered government and party officials as being behind the plot to impose a candidate on the people.

He said the group collective­ly wrote to the national leadership of the party to rescue the situation by releasing the authentic list of delegates that would participat­e in the primaries across the state.

“We have collective­ly agreed to defend democracy in Nasarawa State. What we want is for the right thing to be done and we have tabled the issue before the national secretaria­t of our party and they are looking into said.

Also speaking to newsmen, Envuluanza said the alleged distortion of the delegates list would not augur well for the party, hence the unity amongst the aspirants “to fight against the undemocrat­ic move capable of tearing the party apart.”

Envuluanza warned that if nothing was done to resolve the crisis, the chances of APC winning the governorsh­ip election in 2019 would be slim as voters would have lost confidence in a party for not promoting internal democracy. it,” he
