Belgium, China, others top 5 Nigeria’s trading partners in Q2 -NBS

Belgium, China, Spain, the Netherland­s and India are Nigeria’s top most trading partner countries as at the second quarter of this year.

A report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicated that major export of Nigeria to Belgium during the quarter was petroleum gases valued at N11.7 billion.

The report showed that this was followed by fermented cocoa beans (N474 million), frozen shrimps (N453.5 million) and other meals and pellets of crustacean­s (N53.9 million).

On the import side, Nigeria imported motor spirit worth N117.6 billion, gas oil valued at N20.6 billion, malt (N4.1 billion), polyethyle­ne (N2.0 billion) and other polyethers (N1.6 billion) from Belgium.

An analysis of the report showed that the major export of Nigeria to China during the quarter was natural liquefied gas valued at N23.6 billion and this was followed by propane worth N3.5 billion, butane N3.4 billion, sesamum seed worth N3.4 billion and other liquefied petroleum gases worth N3.2 billion.

The report showed that in terms of imports, Nigeria imported herbicides worth N31 billion, motorcycle­s valued N12.9 billion, at amorphous pet chips at N12.3 billion, reception appliances worth N10.5 billion and other machinery parts worth N10.3 billion from China.

During the same period, crude petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals valued at N372.9 billion was exported to Spain.

Liquefied natural gas worth N49.3 billion, leather (further prepared after tanning/crusting without wool on of goats or kids) valued at N2.6 billion, natural rubber (in primary forms or in plates) worth N410 million and fermented Nigerian cocoa beans valued at N256 million were other major exports to Spain.
