Cult leader killed in shootout with police
The Lagos State police command yesterday announced it has shot dead a “notorious” leader of the Aiye confraternity, Olamide Oloruntobi, alias Olu Terror.
Thirty one-year-old Oloruntobi, had, according to the police, been terrorising residents of the Ishashi, Cele NICA and Afromedia areas in Ojo for many months.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chike Oti, who announced the cultist’s death, said he and his followers had engaged the police in a shootout on Tuesday night on Durosooto Street, New Mebamu, Ishashi, when policemen, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ishashi Division, Superintendent of Police Amuda Abolaji, stormed the area after they had been alerted that Oloruntobi and his boys were terrorising residents of the area.
“When the hoodlums sighted the policemen, they opened fire at them. This led to an intense exchange of gunfire. When the dust settled, Olamide Oloruntobi was found dead. Scores of the residents took to the streets to celebrate the death of Olamide, alias Olu Terror,” Oti said.
He added that the police recovered from him one locally- made pistol with one live ammunition, while his corpse had been deposited at the Badagry General Hospital mortuary.
Detectives were said to be on the hunt for the fleeing members of his gang.
