Bayelsa trains 250 teachers on proficiency
The Bayelsa State Ministry of Education and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) have commenced a six-week training of over 250 public school teachers in subject proficiency.
The teachers would also receive additional training from the University of Africa and Training Registration and Certification Board (TTRCB).
Speaking at the training at Bolu-Orua in Sagbama Local Government Area, the Commissioner for Education, Mr Jonathan Obuebite, said the exercise showed that government was making effective investment in education.
He disclosed that 75 mathematics and 75 English teachers took part in the exercise while the remaining included 50 basic science and 50 basic technology teachers.
He said: “This training is centred on the critical aspect of learning which the teacher is central to; everybody knows that a good teacher will produce good students and vice versa.
“We have to partner with the Nigerian Content Development Management Board (NCDMB) to train this number of teachers, so that the narrative of our educational system will be changed for better,” he stated.
A consultant at NCDMB, Mrs Tonye Imaselcha, said at the end of the training, the participants would be equipped with the knowledge and skills to engage learners.
