PDP won’t implode after P/Harcourt convention – BoT member

- By Muideen Olaniyi

A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Sam Nkire, says the former ruling party will not implode after its national convention slated for Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Nkire, who spoke during an interview with journalists yesterday in Abuja, said the fact that all the 13 presidential aspirants were moving around the country without engaging in mudslinging was an indication that the PDP had a great chance to form the next government come 2019.

The former national chairman of Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) and BoT member of the APC dismissed the notion that the PDP did not have competent contenders that could compete with President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Somebody like Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria, he has the experience. The former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as far as I’m concerned has been one of the best governors Nigeria has had till date. If you look at his records, if you had been to Kano 10 years ago and you went to Kano in the last five years, you will notice the difference. Some inquisitive people just travelled to Kano to see the wonders he did in four years.

“He had worked well too when he was governor from 1999 to 2003. When you count it all, that’s enough to elect him as president. Now look at the Senate president, he is one of first class persons. We have former Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi and Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, he has youth behind him. You also have former minister Tanimu Turaki, SAN.

“So, there is none that cannot make it. But if you ask me, I will say because Kwankwaso has done it before, he is going to do it again,” he said.
