- By Adam Umar

A House of Representatives aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Suleja/Tafa federal constituency in Niger State, Ado Abubakar, has been attacked by political thugs in Suleja.

The attack, which happened on Monday around Kaduna road junction in Suleja, was blamed on supporters of Abubakar Lado, the current representative of the area, who is also seeking for reelection.

Apart from Abubakar, three other people were injured in the incident and were taken to the Umaru Musa Yaradua General Hospital in Sabo Wuse for treatment. One other person injured from the side of Lado was taken to the Suleja General Hospital.

Our reporter, who visited the scene of the incident, counted 19 vehicles bearing Abubakar’s tags and posters that were smashed inside a filling station in the area where they had parked for refuelling.

A witness said the vehicles were coming in a convoy from Sabo Wuse where Ado is currently serving as Chairman of Tafa Local Government.

He said about 30 vehicles had already left the filling station and were heading to Suleja for a campaign rally, when another convoy of the serving representative heading to Tafa got to the area.

The source said about 15 vehicles in Lado’s convoy made a stopover and engaged those in Abubakar’s team who were still at the filling station and smashed their glasses.

The two aspirants were later sighted by Daily Trust at the Suleja police area command along with some of their supporters around 12pm.

The police area commander CSP Iliyasu Kwarbai, told our reporter that he will not comment until after meeting the opponents.
