Election duty: CP takes over in Imo

- From Jude Aguguo Owuamanam, Owerri

Imo State Police Commissioner Dasuki Galadanchi, yesterday, stepped aside as his Kogi State counterpart, Ali Janga, formally took over to conduct the APC primary election in the state.

Janga was received by Galadanchi at the headquarters of the Imo State Police Command on Monday.

Galadanchi, who spoke to newsmen while handing over to his colleague, said the change was necessitated by the desire of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris Kpotum, to ensure that there was transparency in the whole process.

According to him, since there were complaints from some of the dramatis personae that he was not neutral in the election, the IGP had to send Janga to Imo purely for election duties.

He pledged to assist the visiting CP to ensure a peaceful exercise.

Janga, who spoke to newsmen after receiving operational orders and telephone numbers of officers in the command from Galadanchi, said it was not the first time that the IGP was deploying CPs for election duties, adding that he had just finished a similar tour of duty at Osun State where he provided security for the election.

He said he was in Imo State for the APC primaries alone, adding that he would go back to his station as soon as the exercise was concluded.

He assured that there would be no incident of ballot snatching or violence of any sort and told the residents to go about their duties without any fear.
