Suspending strike action best option — Civil service union
The Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) has shed light on the reason the recent strike spearheaded by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) was put off, saying suspending the impasse at the time was the best option.
Speaking in Minna at a one-day seminar organized by the Nigeria Civil Service Union, Federal Inland Revenue Unit (FIRS) on Labour Management Relations, the Assistant General Secretary of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Nehemiah Ogem, said contrary to the insinuations that the labour’s decision must have been influenced by the government, the suspension of the strike was for general good.
According to him, the labour suspended the strike because the federal government assured it that the tripartite committee on minimum wage earlier suspended indefinitely would continue work.
“It should be noted that Labor only suspended the strike but did not call it off. It can call back the strike whenever the government’s is not cooperating. We have just taken the first step and we are watching and waiting for the next step “, he said.
Also speaking, the chairman of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, FIRS Unit, Idris Hassan Abdulrahman, stressed the need for good management and labor relation adding that strike is not the way out as both parties would need to look at dialogue as a viable option.
