- Fron Maryam Ahmadu-Suka,

Kaduna The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Major-General Adeniye Oyebade, has urged the Historical Society of Nigeria to provide solutions to the various agitations of different groups in the country.

Speaking at the 63rd annual congress and conference of the Society in Kaduna yesterday, Oyebade said: “The guarantee of security and peace in any nation lies in ensuring the survival, livelihood and dignity of citizens.”

The commandant noted that the vast majority of new security threats were manifestations of national and transnational processes of disintegration of societal and state structures.

He said the NDA had fully equipped itself to provide knowledge in all fields of emerging security threats.

He said: “The NDA recognises the changes in the dynamics of modern warfare, which requires constant innovation, support for human security, research and advancement technology.

“The Academy is relying on the historical perspective, empirical research and new perspective that can help reposition the Nigerian Military in tackling the emerging security challenges in our country and in supporting the democratic and development agenda of our great country.”

In his remarks, President of the HSN, Professor Chris Ogbogbo, said the collaboration with the NDA was to share ideas with the military to enhance in national security.

Ogbogbo said the society had been in the forefront of bringing history as a subject in schools.

“We have successfully been able to bring history back to our classrooms after 36 years absence. “We are happy that the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, and the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council and other critical stakeholders agree to the role our society play in consolidating the teaching of history in our school system.”
