‘Hard drugs intake cause of security challenges in Nigeria’

- From Bassey Willie, Yenagoa

Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Gboribiogha John-Jonah says the intake of hard drugs by youths is one of the major causes of security challenges in the country.

Jonah stated this yesterday when members of Course 27 of the 137 participants of the Defence College, who were in the state for a study tour, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Yenagoa.

The deputy governor noted that the security challenges in the country were getting complicated and that the ready tools to be used were youths.

“The challenges are becoming more complex because of the use of drugs by young people, this is not only in Bayelsa, but the country at large, those under the influence of drugs are easily misled, and it increases crime rate in the country.

“When the individual is secured, then the society is secured, If we don’t educate our people about this, security challenges will always be there,’’ he stated.

The Deputy Commandant, Director of Studies, Defence College, Major-General Peter Dauke, who led the team, said: “If the youths are properly engaged, it will impact on the national security, and if they are not, it will have adverse effect. It is for this purpose we are visiting Bayelsa State to see things for ourselves, and to see how the youths will be properly engaged.”
