FCT Muslim school owners honour teachers, members
The Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS) FCT chapter has honoured some members and distinguished teachers working at various schools in the territory as part of activities marking the World Teachers Day.
AMIS Chairperson, Hajia Salawu Simbiat Olajumoke, said the event was to appreciate the contribution of teachers to the growth of education in Nigeria and Islamic orientation.
“The biggest threat to providing Nigerians with the best schools, best teachers and best education, comes from the misconception that the education enterprise is now the fastest money making business. Education is thus seen by many proprietors as merely a commercial venture, but this is not applicable to AMIS proprietors,” she said.
The Director, Baynakum Family Counselling Centre, Abuja, Dr. Abdulfattah Adeyemi, who spoke at the gala award dinner, with the theme: “Professionalism and Work Ethics in a School Setting”, said parents and schools must collaborate to ensure the school system worked.
Dr. Adeyemi said schools’ management and other authorities should avoid too much bureaucracy so that teachers and other workers’ loyalty would be earned and not forced.
“School owners must, therefore, avoid complacency and non-recognition of the effort of teachers and parents alike to avoid losing what should have been part of the gains,” Adeyemi said.
One of the officials of the organisation, Alhaji Abdulbasit Bolaji Bakare, said 44 teachers were honoured with plaques and 22 out of the 44 were also given cash rewards for their dedication to service.
He said the Acting Director, Department of Quality Assurance (DQA), Mallam Saliu Omehi Yahaya, Chairman FCT Secondary Education Board (SEB), Hon. Musa Yahaya Mohammed, and the Education Resource Centre’s (ERC) acting director, among others, were also honoured at the event.
