Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has slashed the gate fees for Nigeria’s match against Libya coming up in Uyo on Saturday by 50 per cent.

Speaking yesterday in Uyo with newsmen, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Mr Paul Bassey said the governor’s gesture was designed to encourage football fans to watch the match live at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium while cheering the Super Eagles to victory.

He said football fans will pay as low as N500 each to watch the match from the popular stands which was initially N1,000, while those wishing to watch the game from the VIP stands will pay N1,000 only as against the initial N2,000.

“Football fans around the world usually pay huge amount of money as gate fees to watch international games of this standard but here in Akwa Ibom, Governor Emmanuel has graciously subsidized the ticket by N500 for popular stands and N1000 for VIP tickets.

“Gov. Emmanuel is a passionate sports lover and has demonstrated it in the huge investments in sports development in the state.

“His gesture of subsidizing the prices of tickets for the match is to ensure more fans turn up to watch the game live while supporting the senior national team to victory on Saturday,” he said.

Libya tops the group, while South Africa are second with four points each but Libya lead with a superior goal difference, while the Super Eagles are third on the log with three points from two games.

Super Eagles need to win on Saturday to have any real chance of making it to AFCON 2019 in Cameroon.
