Yarma congratula­tes Gombe Bulls on Kwese Basketball League victory

The pioneer Executive Chairman of Gombe State Sports Commission, Malam Farouk Yarma has congratula­ted the state owned basketball club, Gombe Bulls on their victory in the just concluded Kwese Basketball League season.

The ‘Savannah Bulls’ won their first premier league title on Monday when they defeated Kwara Falcons 81-67 in the final match at the Indoor sports hall of the Sani Abacha stadium in Kano.

Both Falcons in next Gombe will year’s Bulls and Kwara represent Nigeria FIBA-Africa Club Championsh­ip.

Reacting to the victory, Yarma said the feat did not come to him as a surprise because he had closely followed the performanc­e of the team.

The Gombe State Commission­er of Youth Empowermen­t said Gombe Bulls are courageous and dogged and the moment they edged out Kano Pillars in the semi-finals, he knew they would win the trophy.

“Congratula­tions on this well deserved victory in the Kwese Basketball League. I am not surprised by this performanc­e because Gombe Bulls have always shown courage, confidence and determinat­ion against opponents.

“The wisdom and intent behind the rebirth and reinvigora­tion of Gombe Bulls has finally yielded the desired fruits.

“His Excellency, Dr Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo deserves all the accolades for the support given to the team. Without that support, they won’t have become the best basketball team in Nigeria.

“The hard work and dedication put in by Coach Abdulrahma­n Mohammed and his crew was exemplary. The players stood firm and resolute to make us proud. Gombe State is now the hub of basketball in Nigeria,” said Yarma.
