NYSC scandal: Shittu attends FEC after APC disqualification
Embattled Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, yesterday attended the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Shittu was disqualified from Oyo State governorship race by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for not having a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
Our correspondent reports that yesterday’s FEC was the first since the minister was disqualified by the ruling APC. Last week’s FEC was postponed to enable the cabinet members attend the just concluded party primaries.
Shittu arrived at the council chamber at the State House around 10.56am wearing black Kaftan and a cap. He went from seat to seat greeting his colleagues before settling down.
Our correspondent reports that about 25 ministers attended the meeting.
In disqualifying Shittu, the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said “governorship screening committee was not convinced with explanations offered by Shittu that his service as lawmaker in the Oyo State Assembly and Minister was equivalent to the National Youth Service Corps scheme.”
The other minister, Kemi Adeosun who had similar NYSC scandal had since resigned from the cabinet. She has since left the country.
