Union refutes allegations against NHIS boss
The Nigeria Civil Service Union, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) chapter, has refuted allegations leveled against the Executive Secretary of the scheme, Prof Yusuf Usman by the Association of Senior Civil Servant of Nigeria (ASCSN).
This is contained in a press release issued by the union yesterday, signed by the chairman of the union Comrade Muhammadu Gajo and the secretary, Comrade Innocent Abah.
The union said the current media war against Prof Yusuf is not unrelated to the recovery of the recent N1.2 billion from 58 Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) and the N103 million also recovered in March, 2018. “Regrettably, ASCSN has failed to inform Nigerians that these funds are in NHIS account with Central Bank account as at today,” the statement said.
The statement said, this feat, which hitherto proved undoable due to high level collaborations with many stakeholders should be celebrated rather than condemned or suppressed.
“The accusation that the ES is having seven police officers is baseless as it will be suicidal for a man fighting against wealthy establishment and making recoveries running into billions of naira not having a fortified security,” it added.
The ASCSN had accused Prof Yusuf of embarking on activities capable of jeopardising industrial peace and harmony in the scheme since he was recalled from suspension.
They also accused him of causing division among the staff along ethnic, tribal and religious lines, “in an attempt to cover up all his dirty tracks in the area of maladministration, incompetence and corruption.”
