FCT APC NASS primaries: Candido calls for calm

- By Taiwo Adeniyi

The chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area not to engage in any act of violence.

Candido made the call to douse tension in the area council as the chairman of the National Working Committee on the conduct of the National Assembly primaries in the FCT, Benjamin Imeogu, is yet to announce the result of the election held last weekend.

He said party members should refuse to be used by any element to bring about disunity within the party and crisis in the FCT, adding that the party members were law abiding citizens and should be seen as such.

Candido said due to the delay in the announcement of the result, people had resorted to displaying several results on the social media which, he said, had heightened tension among the members.

He said the party members were not concerned about the mode of the primaries anymore but the fallout of the exercise which he noted had left them in the dark.

“In the last three days, our party members are confused by images and information supporters receive from unauthenticated source, the social media, which you will agree is not a conventional media.

“So all of us are confused; we are yet to know who are our candidates for this election. We are yet to know who won and who lost the election so that we can congratulate and respectively.

“As people who are representing them in government, we have a moral obligation to speak to them. We are asking them to remain calm,” he said.

He said they should remain calm and allow the National Working Committee members responsible for the conduct of the primaries to complete their job.

“We are asking APC members in AMAC to remain calm; they should remain so until the committee appointed by the national headquarters finishes its job and announced who the winners of the election are.

“I urge all party members to please be calm and supportive and prayerful to our great party,” he said. console them
