‘Why N/Assembly primary election results are suspended’

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

The delay in declaring winners of the just concluded Senate and House of Representatives primary elections in the FCT is because of petitions by some aggrieved aspirants, a source told our reporter, yesterday.

The source who is a member of the FCT APC executive, who preferred to remain anonymous, confided in our reporter, yesterday, that the delay in declaring the winners of the National Assembly primaries of the party was informed by crisis and protests at some polling units.

He said the national working committee of the party had already put in place an appeal committee to look into the petitions sent by some of the aspirants in the election.

“There were a lot of petitions regarding the conduct of both the Senate and House of Representatives primary elections, where they are calling for cancellation of the entire process. But an appeal committee has already been mandated to look into the petitions which is one of the reasons why there is still delay in declaration of the results,” he said.

The source said there was still time for the submission of candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“And I want to inform you that INEC has extended the submission of candidates’ names till 18th of this month to enable the appeal panel look at the petitions before it,” he added.
